Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary talks to InStyle about 20s fashion and her style credentials..

For the December issue, InStyle chatted to Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery about walking the red carpet and what designers she likes to turn to for something a bit different, as well as her high street staples.

The lady of the house let us know what she thinks of the latest season’s 20s costumes in contrast to to the restricting corsets from the first season: “The latest series of Downton has been my favourite for costumes. For one thing, it’s more comfortable as we’re into the Twenties and mainly out of corsets. In one episode, Lady Mary wears this copy of a an original red Vionnet dress that’s so current, I’d wear it now.”

She let us in on her fabulous fashion moments including a chat with Tom Ford at the Met Ball in New York as they discovered they are both mutual fans of each other.

Michelle Dockery was “devastated” while filming Lady Sybil’s death in ‘Downton Abbey’.

The 30-year-old actress, who portrays Lady Mary in the ITV1 period drama and Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, were disappointed when Jessica Brown Findlay’s alter-ego was killed off, and the brunette beauty really misses her “distinctive” laugh. She said: “We knew a couple of weeks prior to filming the episode what was going happen to it felt like this huge build up. One of the last scenes we shot with Jessica was where the sisters say goodbye to her, and me and Laura Carmichael [Lady Edith] were just devastated playing it.

“We’ve spent three years of our lives together so Jessica going was as wrench. I miss her laugh, it’s really distinctive.”

While Michelle was distraught filming Sybil’s death, she puts her full trust in ‘Downton Abbey’ co-creator Julian Fellowes and is “excited” to see what is going to happen to each character in the show.

She explained: “We completely trust [Julian Fellowes'] ideas and writing and I’m always excited to see where each character goes, so who knows?”

Michelle loves working on the programme and she particularly enjoys the off-set camaraderie shared between her co-stars.

She added: “Everyone has such a brilliant sense of humour so there are lots of laughs on set.”

Based on the novel by British novelist William Boyd, Restless follows the story of a daughter Ruth (Michelle Dockery) who discovers that her mother Sally (Charlotte Rampling) was recruited as a spy during World War II. The Hollywood Reporter has the exclusive trailer for the upcoming two-parter and it’s every bit as intriguing as one would imagine a tale like this would be.

As the trailer suggests, it’s quite a harsh reality to be met with, finding out that all of a sudden, the mother you’ve known all your life actually has a secret life. As Ruth begins to uncover her mother’s double life as Eva Delectorskaya, we get introduced to the dangerous world that was — and is — her life.

Hilary Bevan Jones produced, with Edward Hall directing from a teleplay by Boyd. Michelle Dockery, Charlotte Rampling, Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell and Michael Gambon co-star.

Michelle Dockery is time-traveling to the 1970s for her latest TV project, “Restless.” In the Sundance Channel series, Dockery co-stars in the drama opposite Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell, Michael Gambon and Charlotte Rampling.

In the two-part series, Dockery’s character discovers her mother (Rampling) was recruited as a spy in World War II. “Restless,” based on the novel penned by William Boyd, premieres on December 7 at 9 p.m. ET with part two following on December 14 at 9 p.m. ET.

“Restless” asks the question: What becomes of your life when everything you thought was solid and certain about it turns out to be a fantastically complicated lie? This is the quandary faced by Ruth Gilmartin (Michelle Dockery) when, one day in 1976, her mother Sally (Charlotte Rampling) suddenly reveals that she has been living a double life. She is not the respectable Sally Gilmartin, but in fact Eva Delectorskaya, a spy for the British Secret Service who has been on the run for thirty years.

Eva’s story begins in Paris in 1939. Eva (Hayley Attwell), a beautiful Russian émigrée, is recruited for the British Secret by Lucas Romer (Rufus Sewell), a mysteriously alluring Englishman. As Romer trains Eva to become the perfect spy their love affair begins. When a crucial mission collapses in the USA and Eva finds herself in terrible, fatal jeopardy she knows she has no option but to run and hide forever. Once a spy always a spy. No one can be trusted. But now Sally Gilmartin yearns to end her years of restless watching and waiting. Thirty years on, the only man who can bring this about is her former lover and spymaster, Lucas Romer, now Baron Mansfield of Hampton Cleeve (Michael Gambon), and the only person she can call on for help is her daughter, Ruth. The final chapter of this epic story of love, duplicity and betrayal is about to end — and who will pay the greatest price remains to be discovered.

Absolutely cannot wait for this! It looks fantastic! I have also added a new promotional image, and replaced another with better quality! Enjoy viewing in the gallery.

Michelle Dockery loves watching Homeland.

The Downton Abbey actress – who portrays Lady Mary in the STV period drama – loves the Channel 4 show about the CIA and its rival, Mad Men, about rival advertising men on Madison Avenue. She admits she enjoys watching the drama programmes a lot more than sitting down to take in a long film.

She said: “I’d love to be part of an American show. I’m obsessed with Homeland and Mad Men. All I really do is watch box sets. My brain is programmed now to only watch things for 40 minutes then go on to the next episode. Films feel like they’re too long nowadays.”

The 30-year-old star is keen to appear in a production alongside Kristen Wiig – who played the lead female role in 2011 comedy movie Bridesmaids – because she believes the 39-year-old star is “one of the most talented actresses” in the industry and thinks she will learn a lot from her.

She added to Stylist magazine: ”I’d love to work with Kristen Wiig; I watched her on Saturday Night Live before she did Bridesmaids and she’s one of the most talented actresses around. And Edie Falco, who played Carmela in The Sopranos and is in Nurse Jackie.

“You learn different things from different people; it’s not necessarily specific, often it’s just watching the way they work. Working with Charlotte Ramping [in Restless] was amazing as I’ve admired her career since I was 16. Shirley MacLaine was fantastic; her body of work is incredible and she is such a lovely person. We all missed her when she left [Downton Abbey].”

Filming for Michelle’s new film project Non-Stop is actually set to begin this month in New York. A full film synopsis has just been released! Check it out below!

Coming off his smash hit TAKEN 2, Liam Neeson partners once again with UNKNOWN director Jaume Collet-Serra and producer Joel Silver. This time Collet-Serra goes a step further, plunging the audience into a movie that is at once a labyrinthine mystery, a high-octane action picture and a twist-filled Hitchcockian thriller where no one can be trusted and everyone is a suspect.

Bill Marks (Liam Neeson) is a burned-out veteran of the Air Marshals service. He views the assignment not as a life-saving duty, but as a desk job in the sky. However, today’s flight will be no routine trip.

Shortly into the transatlantic journey from New York to London, he receives a series of mysterious text messages ordering him to have the government transfer $150 million into a secret account, or a passenger will die very 20 minutes. What follows is a nail-biting cat and mouse game played at 40,000 feet, with the lives of 200 passengers hanging in the balance.

NON-STOP isn’t just an action film, but a 500mph rush of adrenaline, suspense and excitement.

We’re still not sure what Michelle’s role will be, but hopefully more information will be released soon!
